League Rules for Saturday League (10v10 at Yerba Buena High School)

Team roster consists of 20 players maximum

  • Only rostered players are allowed to play
  • No drop-ins allowed for one game only – If you have a full roster, you can add an extra roster spot for $25

– 10 players on the field per side including the goalkeeper (9 field players + 1 goalkeeper)

– Minimum number of players to start the match is 5. 5-minute grace period.

– Forfeits will result in 3-0 loss for the team that forfeited

  • The team that forfeited will also be responsible for paying both referee fees (their own team’s and the other team’s)
  • The other team will not have to pay ref fees if a team forfeits

– Two 30-minute halves with 3-minute half-time break. The timer will end at 29 minutes. The referee will add about 1 minute of stoppage time after the time has gone off.

  • For League Games the time will start running right at 9:05 AM, 10:15 AM, 11:25 AM. If a team does not have enough players, it is a FORFEIT.
  • Play-off games on the final day (semis/3rd place/1st place matches) will have to be shorter to have enough time for penalties

– General FIFA Goalkeeper rules.

– Players must be wearing the same colored jerseys – Socks and shorts don’t have to match 

– Long socks and Shin guards are optional but they are recommended 

– No offside rule

– If the ball goes out of bounds through the sidelines we use throw-ins to restart play

– Notify the referee if you want to make a substitution and substitutions are only allowed when the ball is stopped not during gameplay. All players going into the field have to go in through the middle to avoid confusion.

– The ball may travel forward or backward on the kick-off

– Indirect free kicks and direct free kick may be awarded for fouls depending on the scenario 

– Penalty kicks for fouls inside of the penalty area

– Slide tackles are not allowed. A slide will count as a foul + potential yellow depending on the severity of the slide.

– Yellow cards and red cards are given for disciplinary actions. 

– For a yellow card: Players will sit out for 3 minutes or if their team gets scored on during that time, then they can get back in

  • If a goalkeeper gets a yellow card, they can stay on the field and no player goes out

– Red card results in leaving the game, missing the next game, and/or paying a fine depending on the red card.

  • Players who receive a red card will have the option to either:
    • Serve a 1-game suspension + $15 disciplinary fee
    • Pay a $25 disciplinary fee to be eligible for the next match
    • All fines are subject to review and may be adjusted based on the specific situation.
    • Repeat offenses may result in additional suspensions or fines.
  • If a red card is given on the final day of league games, before playoffs, there are two scenarios:
    • Straight red card: Player has to sit out the first day of playoffs
    • Two yellow cards: Player has to sit out the first day of playoffs, or they can pay a $25 fee and play
    • All fines are subject to review and may be adjusted based on the specific situation.

– Players must take off their earrings, watches, and any other jewelry before playing.

— Besides the specific rules above, everything else will be FIFA rules

– Games are played in the rain or sunshine! Games will only be canceled if the city says its dangerous to play outside and they close the fields (such as during a thunderstorm) 

– Fighting will not be tolerated – any players of a team that gets into a fight will be asked to leave, will need to pay a fine, and depending on the situation might not be allowed to join future leagues

-Tie breaker for playoff spots: Goal difference (best), head-to-head score goals for (highest), goals against (lowest), coin (if absolutely necessary)

– Tie breaker for playoff games – if tie – 3 penalty kicks each team

    • If a team does not have 3 women, they play a player down
