General Rules for 9v9 Monday Men’s Leagues

– Team roster consist of 18 players maximum – Only rostered players are allowed to play

  • Once a player plays once they’re in the roster – rostered players cannot be changed for other players
  • If you have a full roster you can add an extra roster spot for $25
  • No drop-ins allowed
  • No more adding players once playoffs start

– 9 players on the field per side including the goalkeeper (8 field players + 1 goalkeeper)

– Minimum number of players to start the match is 4. If you don’t have enough players to start the match 5 minutes after the start time, your team will forfeit.

– Only the Captain can talk to the referee

-Forfeits will result in 3-0 loss for the team that forfeited

– Two 25 minute halves with 2/3 minute half-time break. No injury time and no overtime. Once the buzzer on the sidelines ends it will be last play on the field.

  • For League Games the time will start running right at 8:05 PM and 9:05 PM
  • Play-off games will have to start at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, be 20 minutes long, and/or cut halftime length to have enough time for penalties (if needed)

— Each team plays each other twice, one time as home and one time as away

– General FIFA Goalkeeper rules. Dropkicks allowed.

– Players must be wearing the same colored jerseys – Socks and shorts don’t have to match 

– Long socks and Shin guards are optional but they are recommended 

– No offside rule

– If the ball goes out of bounds through the sidelines we use throw-ins to restart play

– Notify the referee if you want to make a substitution and substitutions are only allowed when the ball is stopped not during gameplay. All players going into the field have to go in through the middle to avoid confusion.

– The ball may travel forward or backward on the kick-off

– Indirect free kicks and direct free kick may be awarded for fouls depending on the scenario 

– Penalty kicks for fouls inside of the penalty area

– Slide tackles are not allowed at all – they can lead to injuries, and we all have to go to work the next day!

  • If a player attempts a slide tackle outside the penalty box, it results in an indirect (no contact) or direct free kick (contact) for the opposing team depending on the slide.
  • If a player attempts a slide (without contact) inside the penalty box, it results in an indirect free kick. Example if there is no one around, but a player slides.
  • If a player slides and there is contact that stops the play inside the penalty box, it results in a penalty kick and a yellow or red card depending on the severity of the slide.

– Yellow cards and red cards are given for disciplinary actions. 

– For a yellow card: Player with the yellow card will sit out for 3 minutes and a new player cannot come in until the time is up, or if their team gets scored on during that time they can go back in

– Red card results in leaving the game, missing the next game, and paying a fine depending on the red card.

– Players must take off their earrings and watches, before playing, necklace is okay. If a players goes inside with these items they will get a yellow card. Referee will tell captain to notify teammates about this rule.

— Besides the specific rules above, everything else will be FIFA rules

– Games are played in the rain or sunshine! Games will only be canceled if the city says its dangerous to play outside and they close the fields (such as during a thunderstorm) 

– Fighting will not be tolerated – any players of a team that gets into a fight might be disqualified from the league (and future leagues) and / or will need to pay a fine, depending on the situation (no refunds)

-Tie breaker for playoff spots: Goal difference (best), head-to-head score, goals for (highest), goals against (lowest), coin (if absolutely necessary)

– Top 4 teams make it to final playoff day (1st vs 2nd and 3rd vs 4th): Tie breaker for playoff games if tie = 3 penalty kicks each team
